PHD grant awards for the Creative industries Sector
The Creative Industries KTN is currently inviting applications for suitable projects.
Industrial CASE Awards are three-and-a-half year PhD awards funded by the UK Research Councils. They consist of a collaborative partnership between a university and company. A PhD project is defined and arranged between the partnership, and a suitable student identified to carry out the research.
For 2010 approximately £66,838 is available for each award from the EPSRC. ……

AHRC SFC Knowledge Exchange Programme: Funding call for research projects 2010
The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) are pleased to announce a call for research based knowledge exchange projects of mutual strategic interest in the field of health and the environment. AHRC and SFC have agreed to total funding of £500, 000 for this call. The level of funding available for any single project will vary depending on the scope of activities and the extent of the collaboration across the HEI and non HEI partners. For guidance, a maximum AHRC/SFC contribution to any single project will be in the order of £50, 000 per annum for up to two years. ……

Food and Drink events in Stornoway and Dingwall
On August 23rd and 24th UHI HI Links held 2 events, one in Stornoway and one in Dingwall. Both events featured the same 2 speakers, Jennifer Bryson, Food Innovation at Abertay and David Lamb, Scottish Agricultural College. These food and drink experts spoke to the many delegates who attended about new product development and getting your product to market. Greener business seminar - Thurso
On Monday 30th August UHI HI Links held an event in Caithness Horizons, Thurso with 2 academic speakers from Edinburgh Napier University, John Currie and Jamie Pearson. The speakers gave some interesting ideas for how a business can save money and become greener, by looking at a range of factors in the business, including waste management strategy, renewable technologies and much more. HI Links went to the Black Isle Show - Thursday 5th August 2010
We were joined by ETS who showcased their cattle monitoring device 'Silent Herdsman™'.

We were also joined by local food writer and baker, Liz Ashworth, who was demonstrating girdle-baking traditional Orkney bannocks and drop-scones using Bere barley grain from Orkney.
UHI HI Links funded a project with the Agronomy Institute UHI to help return this grain to modern use.

EPSRC Industrial CASE studentships 2010
Scottish Enterprise acts as the agent in Scotland on behalf of EPSRC to assist in the allocation of these awards. There are three awards available for the coming academic year. The intention is that awards will be made to applications that most fully match the economic development objectives of Scottish Enterprise and the EPSRC award criteria ……
